Starting Over

This is a piece I relisted on my etsy site today. Im hoping it posts here ok. So bringing everyone up to date, I can start by saying that making pottery has been becoming difficult for me because of severe arthritis, so I am taking a marketing course and trying to learn how to sell on line. I have had my Etsy site for my pottery for a while, but not as active as I should be, so trying to change that some too. Starting over can be difficult at any age, but when you become a senior, lots of us go through major life changes. Change is always hard, but learning all new has proven to be a challenge I am going to overcome. First off, I strive to write more. By putting my thoughts to paper it makes them more real, more solid ideas and goals. So what are my goals...... I will continue my brick and mortar shop, Clay Potential Pottery, in Riddle, Oregon, but now I will offer more painting with acrylics on paper & canvas. I can also hire other artists as my guest to teach a class Ive planned for my high school class. I remember enjoying watching different artists show us their thing, so to speak. I believe you can learn a lot from a lot of sources throughout your art filled life. I teach three days a week - two high school classes and 1 adult classes. And on other days I will be learning marketing

End of school year

Well, the school year has ended with the traditional tie dye day and on the last day they had a barbeque in the rain. This is Oregon after all!
I managed to get a pitfiring in for the class this last semester, and I got a few nice pieces turn out from it myself. Now that classes have ended I should have more time to create some pieces for upcoming shows in September and October.
I got notice this week that the charter school I teach for has received a grant (that I wrote) to run my ceramic program all next school year. I am relieved and thrilled!
I also am receiving some funding to help sponsor my Kids in Clay program this year, thanks to a grant from the Douglas County Cultural Coalition. My summer program is for kids age 4 and up on Saturdays from 10-11am at Clay Potential Pottery. Starts at the end of the month.
Riddle, Oregon is a really, really small town, so having anything for kids to do around here is a wonderful opportunity for them.
In the mean time, I am getting materials together to teach at a week long kids art camp in the park. Going to do clay, painting, & bead workshops next week. fun! more later, Carol

Starting to ramble on

This is day one on figuring out how and what to do here and then what to do with this blog once I write it. fun!
I am busy these days. I have a shop on Main St. in a tiny little town in Oregon, where I make and sell pottery, tiles, sculpture and other artworks. I have been teaching the local charter school kids and now the semester is just winding down.
Meanwhile, I have been doing a lot of grant writing in order to get funding to continue working and teaching here. I will know more about my summer classes in a few days. That is all for now - come back and read more later. Carol
